Recent stories about bombing live code interviews and getting the job.

I did poorly on a challenge recently and wanted to hear similar stories just to see what other people think about it.

I did pretty good up until the challenge, We had a good rapport and I matched pretty good with the requirements expected for what they are looking, both soft skills and hard.

It was a live coding exercise, they helped a little in the beginning and showed me code examples to get me started and then I hard coded the solution and then they nudged me again on the right direction. I was thinking out loud through these nudges and exaplaining to myself out loud why I was wrong and how could I improve. I made a conscious decision to keep saying everything I was thinking. Overall it could've been more smooth and I felt I bombed hard. At the end I said something about not having too much practice with code challenges and then they said "I know, these exercises suck". I felt relieved that they said that but I felt my chances lowered dramatically. Just after the interview I emailed the interviewer saying I am available to them and the company to further prove my skills and knowledge. (I'm still waiting, the interview was very late on a friday, so… )

From what I read on the interwebz, I still have a chance, depending on other candidates and if the balance will tilt more on the first part of the interview.
