Apple will soon support encrypted RCS messaging with Android users

iPhone and Android users will be able to exchange end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) RCS messages in the near future thanks to newly updated RCS specifications. The GSM Association announced that the latest RCS standard includes E2EE based on the Messaging Layer Security (MLS) protocol, enabling interoperable encryption between different platform providers for the first time. The GSM Association said it had started working to enable E2EE on messages sent between Android and iPhone in September last year. E2EE is a privacy and security feature that prevents third parties, such as messaging providers or cell carriers, from viewing the content of your

The 5 best meditation apps for 2025

These days, we all could use a bit of quiet time away from the rise and grind. That’s where meditation comes in. This practice may not be the ultimate cure-all for everything that ails you like some claim, but it can still help with sleep, stress, mood and focus. I’ve been meditating most of my adult life, with varying degrees of regularity, and I’ve tried plenty of different techniques. I’ve done silent retreats. I’ve done transcendental meditation (RIP David Lynch.) I’ve followed along in crowded rooms. This is something well worth your time and effort. This is where meditation apps can

Apple’s $349 iPad 11 is missing a lot, but it’s still all the iPad most people need

A Touch ID fingerprint reader is embedded in the power button; the headphone jack is gone; the iPad branding has been removed from the back; and there’s a USB-C port on the bottom (one benefit of upgrading for me—the old iPad Air was the last Lightning device in the house, give or take a Magic Trackpad or Apple TV remote). The design hasn’t changed at all, which means any accessory made for the 10th-gen A14 iPad should fit this one without issue. This screen ends up feeling like the biggest downgrade from an iPad Air, not because of its size

Bill Gates’ Climate Group Lays Off US, Europe Policy Teams

Breakthrough Energy, the climate group founded by Bill Gates, has laid off dozens of employees in the U.S. and Europe, eliminating its public policy and partnerships teams as it shifts away from advocacy work. Its investment and grantmaking divisions will remain unaffected. The Detroit News reports: Breakthrough Energy is an umbrella organization founded by Gates that houses various initiatives aimed at accelerating the clean energy transition. It also encompasses Breakthrough Energy Ventures, one of the biggest investors in early-stage climate technologies with stakes in more than 120 companies, as well as a grantmaking program for early-seed stage company founders and

DOGE may be using an algorithm to fire federal workers – Computerworld

AutoRIF, developed by the Department of Defense more than 20 years ago, helps agencies manage workforce reductions. Wired reported that DOGE operatives have been editing its code, with updates made recently through a repository in the Office of Personnel Management’s GitHub, managed by Musk associates after Trump took office. However, a review of that GitHub site contained no “public” repositories. Efforts to contact and/or get comment from the White House, DOGE, the DOGE Caucus or the Office of Personnel Management were unsuccessful. “Federal employers using automated decision-making tools sharply reduces transparency for workers and their representatives,” Kunkler said. “There is

Java hiring plans slip, survey says

Slightly more than half of Java shops surveyed (51%) have plans to add more Java developers in the coming year, down from 60% in 2024, according to a report by Perforce, a provider of Java development and devops tools. And while 34% plan to increase the Java tool budget in 2025, that compares to 42% that planned to do so in 2024. These findings were cited in the company’s 2025 Java Developer Productivity Report, published March 4. Perforce, which offers the JRebel Java development tool, this year surveyed 731 developers, team leads, managers, and executives who work in the Java

Securing Conversations With LLMs

Large language models (LLMs) don’t need an introduction anymore. Just as “Did you Google it?” was the question 10 years ago, now it’s “Did you ask ChatGPT?” As organizations increasingly adopt LLMs, the number of people interacting with them, directly or indirectly, is also increasing exponentially.  Today, the use of these models is no longer limited to tech. Healthcare, transportation, media, and many other industries are adopting them. However, along with adoption, one more thing that has grown is security concerns.  There are several instances where requesting the LLM model for a piece of information or tricking it can result
