Starting reading the AI Snake Oil book online today

The first chapter of the AI snake oil book is now available online. It is 30 pages long and summarizes the book’s main arguments. If you haven’t ordered the book yet, we hope that reading the introductory chapter will convince you to get yourself a copy. We were fortunate to receive positive early reviews by The New Yorker, Publishers’ Weekly (featured in the Top 10 science books for Fall 2024), and many other outlets. We’re hosting virtual book events (City Lights, Princeton Public Library, Princeton alumni events), and have appeared on many podcasts to talk about the book (including Machine

OpenAI reaches 400M weekly active users, doubles enterprise customer base

OpenAI today disclosed that ChatGPT and its other products have more than 400 million active weekly users, a 33% increase from December.  OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap (pictured) told CNBC that the company’s paying customer base is growing rapidly as well. Lovelace Studio uses AI to help players build survival craft sandbox worlds

Lovelace Studio is using generative AI to build Nyric, a tool that can help bring gaming worlds to life for player builders who work in harmony. It’s a toolkit for building a community-driven multiverse, or metaverse, as you wish. Players can use AI tools to craft their own worlds, bringing realms to life in a survival crafting sandbox. The aim is to give agency to solo creators and social gamers and then connect them together, said Kayla Comalli, CEO of Lovelace Studio, in an interview with GamesBeat. “We’re doing generative worlds with AI and gaming,” Comalli. “We’ve been doing it

OpenAI and Google call for US government action to secure AI lead

OpenAI and Google are each urging the US government to take decisive action to secure the nation’s AI leadership. “As America’s world-leading AI sector approaches AGI, with a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) determined to overtake us by 2030, the Trump Administration’s new AI Action Plan can ensure that American-led AI built on democratic principles continues to prevail over CCP-built autocratic, authoritarian AI,” wrote OpenAI, in a letter to the Office of Science and Technology Policy. In a separate letter, Google echoed this sentiment by stating, “While America currently leads the world in AI – and is home to the most

Step-by-step reasoning can fix madman logic in vision AI

Vision AI models have a flaw. When shown a medical scan, they might correctly diagnose a condition while citing anatomically impossible reasons. Or they might solve a geometry problem with the right answer but skip essential theorems and rely on made-up ones instead. These models reach correct conclusions through reasoning that makes no sense. This hints at a deeper problem. Current models don’t really think through visual problems – they pattern match their way to answers. The LlamaV-o1 team discovered this by doing something simple: they forced their model to show its work. The results revealed that most visual reasoning

Building for cross-platform wearable AI and mobile experiences

Yiqi Zhao, Product Design Lead, Meta Reality Labs at Meta gave this talk at the Generative AI Summit in Washington DC, 2025. I’m Yiqi, the design lead for Meta Reality Labs, the organization that makes many AR/VR glasses, like the Ray-Ban and the Meta Quest series. Today, I bring a video along with a topic that might not be something you’ve thought about deeply before. But I want you to consider this—can you be a creator? Can you be someone who makes content and actually makes money from it? Can you create fun, engaging experiences within the new developer ecosystem
