Netflix drops trailer for The Electric State, and I’m getting serious District 9 vibes

When I watched Netflix‘s The Electric State trailer, I immediately returned to the iconic sci-fi movie District 9. Especially when you watch the grainy TV part at the beginning, where humans are just disregarding robots and shoving them away in a sectioned area – it does raise questions about how we mistreat things we don’t understand. While the District 9 aliens (or “prawns” as they were unaffectionately known) are different from the robots in The Electric State, the concept is frighteningly familiar. With that in mind, I’m really keen to see how Netflix adapts this story. The trailer is full

How Google Research is making healthcare more accessible and personalized with AI

Last week, at the Lake Nona Impact Forum for advancing global health, I discussed the potential of AI to meaningfully improve healthcare and advance science. Our recent AI breakthroughs provide unprecedented opportunities to make healthcare more accessible, personalized and effective for everyone, and to significantly accelerate scientific discovery. Here’s an update on our progress, how we’re collaborating with partners to bring AI to global healthcare settings and our recently announced AI co-scientist. AI is making accurate health information more accessible Google is often the first place people turn to when they are looking for answers to health-related questions, so we

A springtail-like jumping robot | ScienceDaily

Springtails, smallbugs often found crawling through leaf litter and garden soil, are expert jumpers. Inspired by these hopping hexapods, roboticists in theHarvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) have made a walking, jumping robot that pushes the boundaries of what small robots can do. Published in Science Robotics, the research glimpses a future where nimble microrobots can crawl through tiny spaces, skitter across dangerous ground, and sense their environments without human intervention. The new Harvard robot was created in the lab of Robert J. Wood, the Harry Lewis and Marlyn McGrath Professor of Engineering and Applied

Features & Behind the Scenes

How can AI make reading more enjoyable? What would an AI-powered reading experience look like? Inspired by a discussion between Andrej Karpathy and Patrick Collison, I built a simple prototype to explore some ideas. (Try it at AiReadingClub.com!) In this write-up, I’ll walk through key features, design considerations, and how it was built. Exactly, roughly what I tried and mostly failed. I want to highlight some text in the pdf, pull out the highlight, the preceding text of the chapter, maybe the generated summaries of the other chapters, put it all together, attach nearby images if any… there’s a whole
