Hegseth orders pause in offensive US cyber operations against Russia

US President Donald Trump’s administration is pausing its offensive cyber operations against Russia, officials say, as a diplomatic push continues to end the war in Ukraine. The reasoning for the instruction has not been publicly stated, and it is not clear how long the halt might last. The defence department has declined to comment. The directive reportedly came before Trump ended up in a televised row with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday. Since returning to office, Trump has markedly softened the American position towards Moscow in eagerness to reach a deal to end the war

[2410.02490] Stochastic variance-reduced Gaussian variational inference on the Bures-Wasserstein manifold

[Submitted on 3 Oct 2024 (v1), last revised 28 Feb 2025 (this version, v2)] View a PDF of the paper titled Stochastic variance-reduced Gaussian variational inference on the Bures-Wasserstein manifold, by Hoang Phuc Hau Luu and 4 other authors View PDF HTML (experimental) Abstract:Optimization in the Bures-Wasserstein space has been gaining popularity in the machine learning community since it draws connections between variational inference and Wasserstein gradient flows. The variational inference objective function of Kullback-Leibler divergence can be written as the sum of the negative entropy and the potential energy, making forward-backward Euler the method of choice. Notably, the backward

Building advanced AI systems: Challenges and best practices

My name is Akash, co-founder and CEO of Bellum.ai. Our mission is to help companies build reliable AI systems in production. In this talk, I’ll share insights from working with hundreds of companies using AI, highlighting what works, what doesn’t, and where AI development is headed. The journey to AI innovation Early experiences with AI AI has always been on the horizon, but my moment of realization came about four to five years ago, at the beginning of COVID, when I first experimented with GPT-3’s API. It wasn’t perfect—prone to generating random, inaccurate responses—but it demonstrated a capability never seen

Magma: A foundation model for multimodal AI agents across digital and physical worlds

Imagine an AI system capable of guiding a robot to manipulate physical objects as effortlessly as it navigates software menus. Such seamless integration of digital and physical tasks has long been the stuff of science fiction.   Today, Microsoft researchers are bringing that vision closer to reality with Magma (opens in new tab), a multimodal AI foundation model designed to process information and generate action proposals across both digital and physical environments. It is designed to enable AI agents to interpret user interfaces and suggest actions like button clicks, while also orchestrating robotic movements and interactions in the physical world.

From Automation to Optimization: AI’s Expanding Role in Software Development

The software development world is undergoing a seismic shift. AI is no longer a futuristic promise; it’s actively shaping developers’ workflows today. Think of AI as a skilled mid-level engineer in the developer’s workshop — ready to handle the repetitive, time-consuming tasks that often bog down creativity. We are seeing a shift in responsibilities, with AI taking over coding tasks and developers focusing on higher-level tasks that require creativity and problem-solving. Like a skilled worker sharpens tools and prepares materials so a master craftsman can focus on innovation, AI enhances how we build, test, and maintain software. Developers are not

The iPhone 15 Pro will get Visual Intelligence with iOS 18.4

What started as an Apple Intelligence feature exclusive to the Camera Control-endowed iPhone 16 line is coming to older iPhones, and soon. We already knew that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would get Visual Intelligence at some point in the future, and thanks to 9to5Mac, we now know it’s one of several options you can assign to the Action Button in the second iOS 18.4 beta. That likely means the feature could end up in the final release of the update. Visual Intelligence lets you draw on AI models from Google and OpenAI to find information (and websites)

Exploring Unified Vision-Language Tracking with Multi-Modal Alignment

[Submitted on 7 Jul 2023 (v1), last revised 28 Feb 2025 (this version, v2)] View a PDF of the paper titled All in One: Exploring Unified Vision-Language Tracking with Multi-Modal Alignment, by Chunhui Zhang and 6 other authors View PDF HTML (experimental) Abstract:Current mainstream vision-language (VL) tracking framework consists of three parts, \ie a visual feature extractor, a language feature extractor, and a fusion model. To pursue better performance, a natural modus operandi for VL tracking is employing customized and heavier unimodal encoders, and multi-modal fusion models. Albeit effective, existing VL trackers separate feature extraction and feature integration, resulting in
