Apple has reportedly struck a deal with a major Chinese player to bring Apple Intelligence features to the country, reports The Information.

In China, strict regulations have prevented Apple from releasing any AI features. Consequently, Apple’s sales have dropped for the first time in years.
Apple partnering up with Alibaba to bring Apple Intelligence feature to China

Qianer Liu and Jing Yang’s recent report for The Information vividly outlines Apple’s strategy to introduce Apple Intelligence features on iPhones, iPads, and Macs in China, which includes a partnership with Chinese tech giant Alibaba.
Apple has recently started working with Chinese internet and e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to roll out artificial intelligence features in China, according to one person with direct knowledge of the decision. The move is part of Apple’s strategy to offer more compelling software features to counter declining sales in the country, where it faces increasing competition from domestic brands like Huawei and Vivo.
Apple and Alibaba have submitted the Chinese AI features they co-developed for approval by China’s cyberspace regulator, the person added, indicating that the partnership has gained significant progress.
Apple was slow in launching Apple Intelligence worldwide. In China, government restrictions prevented the rollout of AI features.
To enter the market, Apple had to partner with a local company, causing the delay despite potential impacts on iPhone sales.
Apple announced that China would receive Apple Intelligence with the iOS 18.4 update in April, marking a significant achievement. However, Apple hasn’t detailed plans for activating its AI features in China.
Apple also tested DeepSeek’s models

When it comes to partnering with a Chinese company, DeepSeek is the first name that comes to mind. Interestingly, Apple tested DeepSeek’s models and reportedly passed, at least for now.
Previously, The Information even reported that Apple was working with Baidu to develop AI features for China.
Apple might collaborate with various Chinese partners to introduce different elements of Apple Intelligence to the Chinese market.
Apple Intelligence encompasses a broad range of AI capabilities, including writing tools, image generation, and intelligent assistant support.
So, who knows what Apple is planning for China? However, the recent report makes one thing clear: Apple is eager to bring Apple Intelligence to one of its biggest markets as soon as possible.
