When organizations adopt cloud marketplaces, they’re not just streamlining procurement — they’re reshaping how they innovate, collaborate and scale.
For Box Inc., Google LLC’s Google Cloud Marketplace has done just that, opening up new avenues for AI-driven enterprise content management while accelerating deals and deepening customer relationships. The company has expanded integrations across Google Cloud services, from security and AI to analytics and storage, while strengthening collaboration between technical and sales teams.
“The people working from the Google side have been a delight to partner with,” said Diego Dugatkin (pictured, right), chief product officer at Box. “We’ve been able to do things together fast and effectively. We continue to work in every area. This is both a product and business partnership, and both are moving fast and well.”
Dugatkin spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier for the Google Cloud Marketplace Marvels interview series, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. He was joined by Stephen Orban (left), vice president of migrations, ISVs and marketplace at Google Cloud. Their conversation explored Box’s evolving role in Google Cloud Marketplace, the impact of AI on content management and how partnerships drive enterprise innovation. (* Disclosure below.)
AI, security and scale: Why Box and Google Cloud are a Marketplace power pair
Box Inc. isn’t just using Google Cloud Marketplace — it’s thriving within it. By integrating AI-powered capabilities with Google’s ecosystem, Box is advancing intelligent content management for enterprises handling massive amounts of data. With an exabyte of data under management and partnerships spanning Google Vertex AI, BigQuery and Google Workspace, Box is positioned as an intelligent content management powerhouse.
“I’d like to think of the Box and Google Cloud relationship a little bit like peanut butter and jelly,” Orban said. “It just goes so well together in any way you slice it, pun intended. From the very beginning of Google Cloud, we knew that we were going to need to have the world’s best software and tools that our customers use on a day-to-day basis and have it work really well together with the tools they use from Google Cloud.”
This synergy fuels a wave of innovation, from AI-powered metadata extraction to enterprise-grade governance. By leveraging Google’s AI models, Box enables customers to efficiently classify, summarize and search vast amounts of content. Box’s AI-powered approach to enterprise content management ensures security, compliance and seamless collaboration across teams. At the same time, Google Cloud’s secure infrastructure ensures compliance with strict regulatory standards, making the partnership even more valuable to enterprise customers, according to Orban.
“From a collaboration perspective, we’re working in every area together — technology, services and also sales,” Orban said. “The integration isn’t just about technology; it’s a full-scale business partnership aimed at accelerating product innovation and go-to-market success.”
Shorter cycles, bigger wins: How Box advances enterprise content management
The benefits of Google Cloud Marketplace extend beyond product integration. Box’s presence in the Marketplace fundamentally reshapes how companies approach enterprise content management at scale. By streamlining procurement and expanding reseller partnerships, Box has accelerated its global footprint while offering customers flexible billing options that maximize their existing cloud investments.
“It’s much quicker [and] simpler to buy it through Google this way, and it includes the consolidated version of using Google Cloud Billing, purchased through Google Cloud Marketplace, but also provides customers with more options to bill against existing Google Cloud commitments, which helps reduce cost for customers,” Dugatkin said. “Thinking customers first, this is a win-win-win, and it’s proving real. We have many six-figure and even seven-figure deals either done or coming up. We see a ton of acceleration.”
Co-selling efforts between Google and Box have also driven significant success, most notably in international markets where reseller partnerships provide local expertise and sales support. The introduction of reseller capabilities in Google Cloud Marketplace has made it easier for companies such as Box to enter new regions without needing extensive in-house sales teams, according to Orban.
“We added a capability to our Marketplace back in Q2 of 2024, where a customer who prefers to transact through a reseller — either because they’re consolidating some of their procurement down to fewer vendors and they just know their business better or because they’re working with them as part of their Google Cloud relationship — that’s something that Box has really embraced as well and taken advantage of,” Orban said.
Box’s work with Jam City, an award-winning mobile entertainment company, is a strong example of this collaboration. The partnership leverages Google Cloud’s infrastructure and Box’s AI-powered content management capabilities to create a secure, scalable solution for game development, according to Dugatkin.
“It’s a truly joint effort,” he said. “We have a genuinely ‘better together’ story here. It starts with the ability to integrate with workspace and offer that all in one environment.”
